Skip the big expensive binders that tell you how to orchestrate the "perfect" wedding -that's not what getting married is about! Or, at least, buy this book and read it before you start planning the wedding (whether it's your own, your child's, or a friend's wedding).
This book is about creating a wedding that fulfills its purpose: celebrating the joining of your lives before God with your friends and family in a way that reflects who you really are and what you really value. It also stresses the importance of planning a wedding that won't put you -and your family- into financial situations that can harm your marriage and family relationships.
My (now) husband and I constantly went back to the principles in this book to help us keep our heads as we planned our wedding. Yes, he read it, of his own volition, when he heard what it was saying. How many grooms read those wedding-planning binders filled with pictures and deadlines?
We -and our GUESTS- were so happy with our wedding and reception, which cost less than $4000 (compared to the $15,000-30,000 tabs our friends have run up) and was both simple and beautiful. The one compliment we repeatedly got from our guests was that people really felt welcome and comfortable -and I credit the author for reminding us that the people and relationships were the most important part of the start of our marriage.
You can find all the to-do lists and ideas online for free; spend a few bucks on this book to help you remember what's really important as you prepare (or help someone you love prepare) to be married!
We've loaned our copy out numerous times to friends -I wish I had more than one!
