The Bride & Groom's Wedding Checklist & Planner Guide: With Companion CD-ROM Review

The Bride and Groom's Wedding Checklist and Planner Guide: With Companion CD-ROM
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would highly recommend this book for someone planning a wedding. Although, I feel it is written a bit awkward at times, this book is a definite plus for planning a wedding. I can't think of a thing that was left out. Even the latter half of the traditional use of the old adage "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" is incorporated. It was nice to see the "special reading" suggestions noted. These beautiful examples provide great options for the wedding ceremony. The checklist at the end of every chapter reiterated in the appendices keeps everything on track.
I liked it that the writer directed the reader to bridal websites and magazines for current hairstyle and other trends, even though she didn't use that term. Trends change quickly, so it could have outdated the book in short order. One thing I never saw mentioned was the potential replacement of the bride's maid/matron of honor for the "man of honor," which recently arrived on the wedding scene. This may become a new staple in wedding ceremonies.
Something I thought was somewhat curious was that the wedding stationery chapter was placed at the end of the book. The book states that these should be ordered six months in advance, even before visiting the groom's wedding party attire. Overall, though, the book provides thorough pre- through post-wedding details, direction and information.

The Funny Bride Guide Review

The Funny Bride Guide
Average Reviews:

As a male, I am totally ignorant of wedding etiquette. I have a sister-in-law who is to be married shortly, so I went looking for some assistance. Admittedly, I am intimidated by the whole affair so I wanted a book that would not add anymore pressure. I looked through several books, which not only further intimidated me, but reinforced the fact that I am completely out of my element. I was about to throw in the towel when I picked up The Funny Bride Guide. As frustrated as a wedding inept male can get, I began to laugh at the first page. I continued laughing through the day as I finished reading the book. I was so relieved and pleased I went and purchased another copy for my soon to be sister-in-law. She has thanked me non-stop for alleviating some stress with the use of The Funny Bride Guide. Thank you very much to the ladies who were so considerate of a man who only wants to do whats right with the least amount of pain. Kudos!

The Engaged Groom: You're Getting Married. Read this Book. Review

The Engaged Groom: You're Getting Married. Read this Book.

I gave this to my future husband to read just a few days ago and he devoured it overnight, laughing and enjoying himself along the way. I think he learned a lot too, because now he's helping out a lot more with wedding planning. I wound up flipping through the book and thought it was as good if not better than some of the books written for brides!
My favorite part was the bit about the worst songs to play at your wedding! I had heard two of them at a wedding I went to just a week before.
Based on my groom's initial reaction and my impression, I highly recommend this book, since too many others are either too silly or too serious. This seems to strike just the right tone.

Today's groom expects and is expected to take on a large and often times equal role in the planning of the big event. The days of the husband–to–be just showing up with a nice suit on and having no idea of what went into the planning are long gone. This is not to say that the groom's interests need to be the same as the bride's. This book will help the groom to choose what interests them and works well with their talents. If it is not picking out the table cloths to match the flowers, than it could be working on the menu or the invitations or even designing the wedding website. For the groom who wishes to be actively involved and not be limited by traditional wedding elements, the book will suggest ways to create a modern wedding. For example turning the focus to the enjoyment of the guests and thinking of the day as a big party, while still respecting the wishes of the families.

I just recently got engaged and it seems as though everyone feels the need to give me all kinds of books to read, all of which are exactly the same! They skipped around so much! How is someone suppose to plan a wedding when the damn book skips around so much! Lol! Unlike all the others, I love this book because not only was it easy to read, it was very informative and it wasn't "heavy" like most wedding books! I found myself laughing out loud to some parts! I love all of the pictures! I def recommend this book to every bride!!

I got this book from my future in-laws, and they must have read my mind. If you just got engaged and you need advice on how to prepare for the "big day," check this book out. It's got tons of practical information, but it's fun to read. It's a how-to guide for guys, who everyone forgets has to also do things to get ready for the wedding day. The author has obviously been through the wedding thing at least once, and he definitely wants us to have fun and not take it all too seriously. I laughed out loud reading this book!

The Knot Complete Guide to Weddings in the Real World: The Ultimate Source of Ideas, Advice, and Relief for the Bride and Groom and Those Who Love Them.

I found this book helpful as I began planning our wedding. I've never been much of a "wedding person," so prior to getting engaged I hadn't spent much time figuring out which flowers I wanted in my bouquet or what color my bridesmaid dresses should be. This book was exactly the crash-course I needed to get oriented and then get to work.
At first the planning was a little overwhelming, but The Knot Complete Guide to Weddings in the Real World provided a great overview in the first section of the book, before delving into the endless details in the second section. This format works well, and the book is well-organized, with the middle section comprised of chapters on all of the aspects of your wedding: your gown, the ceremony, the reception, music, photography, etc. That makes it easy to find exactly what I need to know depending on what I'm working on at the moment. The third section includes helpful information on all kinds of situations you may face, from spats with your darling fiance, to cross-cultural issues, to managing your future inlaws.
One of the best features of The Knot Guide is that it doesn't assume you know a lot about planning a wedding, but it doesn't talk down to you, either. It includes a lot of helpful illustrations, explanations, and glossaries to help you figure out what different bouquet shapes mean, what kind of cake frosting works best depending on where you're having your reception, and what the different shades of white are when shopping for your gown. Reading this book helped give me the information I needed to communicate effectively with my vendors and "speak their language."
Overall, this book works best as both a guide and a resource--it walks you through everything step-by-step, and is also helpful to refer back to as you progress through your planning. Because of its general nature, it's not the only book I used when planning our wedding, but it is one of the most useful.

Groomology: What Every (Smart) Groom Needs to Know Before the Wedding Review

Groomology: What Every (Smart) Groom Needs to Know Before the Wedding
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really got a huge kick out of this book. And so did my fiancée. It has some really useful information. It's funny. But it's also real good spirited. Any engaged guy would benefit from this. I went to a bookstore with my fiancée and lounged around in the wedding books section. Most of the books that were there were written for/from the female perspective, and therefore did not motivate me to purchase or read the book. The other books for men were more about etiquette and what to expect. Then I ran across this one. I figured... oh no, it's another idiots guide or for dummies books... but then I realized that it wasn't. So I picked it up and read parts of it. Right off, I could tell that from the sense of humor of the author, that at the very least if it didn't offer me new information, since I have never been married before, it would at least keep me entertained.
So I purchased it. And I started reading it instead of a newspaper during some private time. It offered some helpful advice. It told me what to expect. And it made me laugh. What else could I ask for. I highly recommend getting this book because it does help me feel more informed about what to expect, and I don't have to carry around some frilly Martha Stewart-like book. The publisher and author understand that there is a niche for wedding books for men... that guide, offer advice, and entertain at the same time. If you are one of those football loving, bud light beer commercial watching, 20 something, 30 something, and even 40 something men, who has never been married before, then this is the book for you.

Weddings for Grownups: Everything You Need to Know to Plan Your Wedding Your Way Review

Weddings for Grownups: Everything You Need to Know to Plan Your Wedding Your Way
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you want to overdose on froofy bouquets, fairy princess dresses and hard sales pitches about your wedding being "your day," avoid this book. If you've got a strong sense of style that you're not seeing in Bride's Magazine, a genuine wish to make the wedding a special celebration for all your loved ones, and a sincere longing to avoid becoming Bridezilla, get the book.
It's not going to give you bouquet ideas, it's not going to tell you how to shave $1000 off your dress price, it's not going to show you how to hand-make your favors.
But this book will help you keep everything in perspective and create the ceremony and reception that you want to have, not the one other people think you should have. It will give you the backbone to go your own way when faced with yet another bridal boutique consultant who seems to think that every woman wants a 12-foot train.
This book is a sanity check and wedding-planning outline wrapped in one. I heartily endorse reading this before you even *think* about buying a copy of Modern Bride.

I'm in my 40s and getting married for the first--and only--time in a few months. My fiance was feeling a little left out of the planning process, so I bought 2 copies of this book, one for him and one for myself. It's been a great discussion tool, and we've both made lots of notes all over the pages. The book covers the details of wedding planning but with a focus on keeping the relationship and the meaning of the celebration central. No matter what other planning guides you own -- and you will need others that do go bananas over flowers and bridesmaids' dresses if that's your thing, and God knows there are plenty of them out there-- please pick up a copy, or two, of this one. It lets you convert the stress and commericalism of planning your wedding into a relationship-deepening experience.
