(More customer reviews)My 9 and 11 year old girls, fans of the Cake Boss, lobbied hard to get a "Girl Gourmet" cake maker for Christmas - as best I could tell, an overpriced glorified Easy Bake Oven with microwaveable cakes that must taste gross, along with mix your own fondant. So instead, I bit the bullet, and though being creativity impaired, got them some fondant and tools . I wanted to get a "fancy" pan for a 3 tiered cake, but didn't want to break the bank, or make huge wedding sized cakes every time they wanted to decorate. I was a little worried about how this "all in one" 3 tiered cake pan would work, but it was great. For whatever reason, it didn't come with instructions - the box from Amazon was beat up and appeared it had been opened then resealed, so perhaps something happened during shipping. But I called the company, and the lovely woman who answered gave me batter and baking directions verbally as well as faxing me a copy, and the reminder to grease the cake pan well. The girls were thrilled when I showed them the things I had gotten and we made the cake the day before Christmas Eve, and I was even more thrilled when it came out of the pan, baked to perfection, with no difficulty at all. On Christmas Eve we learned the basics of fondant together, decorated a very colorful cake, and welcomed Jesus' birthday with their very own fondant decorated 3 tiered cake on Christmas day. An adventure to remember. And having the pan work well was the start of it ...

Wilton Mini Ball Pan Review

(More customer reviews)I've used this pan to make cakes decorated like Christmas ornaments, igloos, small sports balls, and the center of a large sunflower cake. It's hard to carve a shapely circle from round/square cakes, so this has been an indispensable tool in the aforementioned projects.
This is made of flimsy aluminum and requires generous greasing to avoid sticking - leave no spot ungreased! I use homemade cake release and it works better than spray (thoroughly mix 1 cup flour, 1 cup shortening, and 1 cup veggie oil - brush on pan with pastry brush and refrigerate remainder for future use). I also had to adjust my baking time/temperature to avoid any burned cakes.
All in all, I'm glad that I have 2 sets of mini ball pans for the occasional spherical cake. With Amazon's 4-for-3 promo, this ended up being a good deal for me. Just remember that greasing this sucker is essential.

Wilton Performance Pans Hexagon Pan Set Review

(More customer reviews)I'm listing the sizes and volumes of the pans since they are uncommon (not rectangle or round) and I noticed that nobody (not even the seller) says what size they are. I'll spare the "area of a hexagon" math here since its somewhat complicated (Google it if you'd like to double check my work). I don't own these yet, but hope to go ahead and get them soon. (I like hexagons / honeycomb shape, and just for fun it would be great for honey based cakes/breads.)
Note: My sizes are based on assuming the listed diameter of the pans is across the long points. For simplicity, my comparison of what square and round sized pans are used is rounded to common measurements of nearest 1/4 inch length/width/square (or nearest 1/8 inch high), and my milliliter measurements are rounded to the nearest 5.
The 15" is 146.25 square inches (12" square / 13.5 or 13.75" round)
* 1 quart (at 3/8 inch high)
* 945 ml (at 1 cm high).
The 12" is 93.50 square inches (9.5 - 9.75" square / 11" round)
* 22 fluid ounce (at 3/8 inch high)

The 9" is 52.50 square inches (7.25" square / 8" round)
* 12 fluid ounces (at 3/8 inch high)

(More customer reviews)This is a very nice item and works well when used properly. The only thing that you have to careful of is making sure that you use a cooking spray, like Pam, and spray evenly or you will get a pool at the bottom. If you spray too little, the tops will break off in the pan.
Basically, if you grease it properly, it works great and the mini-teared cupcakes look fantastic.

For the rest of us this is the perfect "oops" pan for our attempts at cake baking. Think a Dr. Seuss-themed birthday party. Use this pan to bake the base for a tipsy cake. Wilton has included detailed directions (such as using solid vegetable shortening and flour to prepare the pan)for use. Size is roughly eleven inches from top to base and ten inches across at base. According to Wilton this is equivalent to a two layer cake mix.

She has done at least one test run with the middle sized pan and was happy with the results. We were slightly concerned because of the shape that it wouldn't cook evenly but there was not a problem with that on the first trial run. Lovely pans, good quality, and well worth the price!

Wilton 301-910 Romantic Castle Cake Set Review

(More customer reviews)About a month ago, my daughter said she'd like Daddy to make her a castle cake for her third birthday. I found this kit online, and thought it looked easy enough. How hard could a "kit cake" be to make?
Once I got into this project, I quickly realized that to make this cake "right", it would be no quick endeavor! We planned ahead. Two days before the party, we started baking cakes and making flowers (easy enough to do that the soon to be birthday girl even helped--fun like Playdo). We froze the cakes.
The day before the party, I iced the (still frozen) cakes and put the glitter on all of the areas it needed to be on (roof-tops, around windows, etc...) For a dad, this is doable, but certainly not easy (I was up until 3 am working on this--of course, I didn't start until very late as I returned home from work late).
The party was in the evening, so I had time the day of to assemble and finish the cake. First, I did rolled fondant on the top only of the base cake, and on the entire second (smaller) cake. Instead of using "melted candy" as the instructions suggest, I used a glue gun to attach some sticks to the towers to help keep them upright. The glue stuck fine, but the wieght of the roof-tops made a couple of the towers unstable at times. After putting on the towers, I used Valentine's day M&M's (red, pink, and White) as "rocks" for the walls of the base cake.
This cake is no easy project for a dad with limited cake baking know-how, and it is also very time consuming to make it right. When my newly-turned 3 year old little princess put her arms around me and said, "Dad, I'm really proud of you. You did a good job on my castle cake." it was ALL WORTH IT!

Parrish Magic Line 3 Piece Mini Tier Mini Round Aluminum Cake Pan Set Review

(More customer reviews)What is missing from the photo is someone's hand or a book so that we can see the scale of this pan set. The pan set is about the size of my hand. The dimensions are equally misleading as the 12 x 12 x 12 is the CUMULATIVE measurement of all three tiers. My ruler is measuring this as 2 in (height) by 4" diameter for the largest tin.
It is a cute tin and would make a cute cake for a child but what bothers me is that the discription and photo is misleading. I wonder how many people purchased this item thinking it was something that it was not.

(More customer reviews)I am on my second attempt to create a heart-shaped Valentine treat with this pan. The first attempt, I followed the recipe and directions. I questioned whether or not the chocolate chip cookie would really come out by just greasing the pan with vegetable spray, as instructed, but pressed on. Usually I would line it with parchment paper. No dice. I finally got it out with a very long-bladed spatula and a lot of bad words. I checked the directions again, and thought maybe a brownie mix would work if I made a parchment "truss" to help it out of the pan. Greasing the pan before and inverting it as directions say does not seem to work. My brownie is wrecked. It's still a cute pan, but I wanted to give the treats as gifts, not have to give the pan as well. Though right now that doesn't seem like a bad idea..

(More customer reviews)Wilton makes quality products which are used by professional and home bakers. Kids love using this 6-Cavity Aluminum Mini Heart Muffin Pan. They can choose different colored sprinkles to decorate the tops of the heart cakes. Since these pans are not nonstick, I find it best to grease them with vegetable shortening and then dust them with flour. Then I fill each cavity with spoonfuls of batter until the cavity is two-thirds full. You may have to watch the baking time when you use this pan for the first time because these small cakes tend to cook quickly--faster than the time recommended for cupcakes.
One cake mix recipe makes 24 heart-shaped small cakes, so I would recommend buying two pans to save time.
