(More customer reviews)The title of this book is seriously misleading. I purchased this book believing it would offer hints, tips, and techniques related to Wedding videography. Instead the author rants on and on about what "tacky" colors brides shouldn't use for there weddings, what shape they should choose for their wedding cake, what colors hired help should wear, why black is so boring, and she tells how on several occasions she recorded audio of grooms and groomsmen discussing the size and shape of her breasts while filming the wedding and goes on to say that she could've used the audio to extort money from her clients but instead gave unedited copies of her duties to the soon to be unhappy couple after the honeymoon.
This book really let me down. The author comes across as a negative old maid that never got married yet felt she had so much more to offer than anyone of her clients. However, there were a few things I did pick out of the book but it was a small amount of information for the money I spent on the book.
The author's intention was to offer brides guidance and suggestions from her experience as a wedding videographer. But, even under that premise she often loses sight of the objective and wanders off and instead goes into small tirades dredging up dirt and dissention of previous clients she worked for. The lack of clear literary direction and cohesion through out the book makes for a frustrating read.
If the author would have choosen a better title and cut a lot of the worthless and negative material out, the book could have fulfilled its intended purpose as a guide for brides and grooms for their big day. After reading the book I honestly can NOT recommend it to anyone either planning a wedding or in the wedding business. I gave it two stars becasue I did get something out of it but not my money's worth.

The Ex Factor (Harlequin Blaze) Review

(More customer reviews)I loved all of the characters in this book. I didn't think I'd enjoy the "wedding planner" theme but it led to a lot of funny meetings between Karen (the wedding planner) and her ex-husband Dexter Crane (best man).
The chemistry between these two is off the charts but the secondary love story was just as good. Laurel, the ethereal cake designer and Ron, the boring accountant, ended up being the most poignant part of the book. They were complete opposites but so perfect for each other. Ron wooes Laurel by lending her his favorite mystery novels complete with his letter grade in the back. She finds it interesting that he never gives anything an A+.
Later, Ron tells her "You are the A+ I never thought I'd find."
That's the part that earned this book a place on my keeper shelf. Enjoy!

I wasn't looking for a planner, but a book that told me exactly what steps I needed to take so I wouldn't forget anything. This book covers every detail of your wedding, breaking down every task that needs to be done. It also had lists of questions that you should ask photographers, caterers, musicians, and all the other people offering serves to you. There were also song lists, which was really neat too. This book really got me started on my wedding plans. I took this book, and typed out checks lists for each month building up to my wedding date, and it's been So helpful to keep me organized and on track. Plus its so inexpensive!!

(More customer reviews)The Wedding Day Mystery is yet another one of Nancy Drew's excellent mysteries. This mystery is about four weddings that are ruined and Nancy, that famous detective, is trying to find the culprit. The first wedding, minor things happen like, a cake mix-up and the bride sees a ghost (the culprit). In the second wedding the brides' dress gets ripped to shreds and the gazebo falls on the bride and groom. The third wedding gets even worse the culprit goes as far as to threaten the bride and turn all the power off. In the foruth and final wedding the subject gets threwn off a little. After the culprit is caught and put in jail, the brides' ex-boyfriend kidnapps the bride and threatens the whole congregation with a bomb. I would have never guessed who the culprit was, but I'm not going to tell you who it is you'll have to find out yourself. This was a great book, of course. Nancy's mysteries are always fun and suspensful from cake mix-ups to threatening notes. Yes, I would recommend this book to you, as well as all the other Nancy Drew mysteries. I've been reading Nancy Drew's since I was in 4th grade and have not once lost interest in them, and probably never will.

Oftentimes, I check out cookbooks from my local library, pick out the recipes that I want to try, and jot them down. When I started to do that with this book, however, I noticed that I was marking several pages in a row, and pretty soon had most of the pages bookmarked! I stopped marking, returned the book to the library, and purchased my own copy.
What makes this seemingly simple concept so special? Well, as the author points out, most people love cupcakes. They are versatile, portable, and easy to create. You can make cupcakes as simple or as creative as you would like. And this great book of over 135 recipes can help in any situation. Need 2 dozen cupcakes for the class bake sale and want the cupcakes to look incredible? Want to impress your dinner guests but not spend hours in the kitchen? Want to wow your kids with a special treat after school? You can make up a batch of cupcakes that will accomplish all of these tasks.
I loved the fact that most of the recipes start with a box of cake mix, and ingredients that I keep in my pantry and refrigerator. Some of my family's favorites include: Red Velvet Cupcakes, Coconut Snowballs, Caramel Spiced Apple Cupcakes, Fresh Raspberry Cream Cakes, and the Marshmallow Frosting.

I had done months and months of searching for information and always came up with the same old stuff. When I got this in the mail, it changed my wedding planning from nightmarish to easy and a lot of fun. Besides all of the great ideas and recipes (yum :) it has many sayings, superstitions, blessings, and fun facts that add some charm to the whole aspect of holding an Irish wedding. My fiance even got hyped about helping with the coordination of the event, inspired by the ideas this book had offered. A MUST buy.

The 2009 Wilton Yearbook is a great source of ideas for all levels of bakers making cakes for every possible occasion. Wilton publishes a yearbook every year with new ideas to keep up with the most popular characters, celebration themes and new products. For example, there is a special 20 page section featuring 3-D desserts. This section has pictures of cakes shaped like dinosaurs, robots and dollhouses. New products in this yearbook include the Wall-E cake pan, Wall-E cake toppers, a giant cupcake cake pan and footed silicone baking cups. There are also many classic cake ideas such as teddy bear, flower and dinosaur cakes. The yearbook includes cake, cupcake and cookie ideas for occasions such as holidays, birthdays, graduations, baby showers and weddings.
The yearbook is essentially a catalog of Wilton cake decorating products. Although the yearbook has numerous cake ideas, there are even more products and ideas on the Wilton website. For instance, there is a larger variety of Sesame Street and Disney cake pans on the website. The yearbook only depicts the newest and most popular party themes. It is not a complete catalog of all Wilton products.
The yearbook has countless pictures of cakes. Along with each picture, there is a list of pans, tools, decorations, recipe names and instructions for creating the cake. The list is basically a shopping list for everything you need to bake the desired cake along with the instructions describing how to assemble and decorate the cake. The accompanying instructions are relatively easy to follow depending on the experience of the baker. (Beginners may need to learn and practice basic cake decorating techniques.)
There are also sections in the yearbook focusing on recipes (icing, cookies, cheesecake, fondant, etc.), cake decorating tips and cake cutting guides. I like the Tip Techniques section. This section demonstrates how to use a variety of cake decorating tips with pictures and instructions. There are similar sections called Flower-Making Techniques, Fondant/Gum Paste Techniques and Candy Making Techniques.

Cakes to Inspire and Desire Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this book with very high hopes, because Lindy's cakes are so spectacular. However, I was a little disappointed. Her specialty is the wonky cakes like the one on the cover, but I found her instructions were pretty sparse. I have learned more about how to put together wonky cakes from free online tutorials than from the info in this book. I also think the photography was insufficient. All of the photos of the wonky cake construction are shown from the top, looking down on the top of the cake. This isn't helpful in seeing how the wonky cake is supposed to look from the side.
There are only 2 recipes included, one for chocolate cake and one for madeira. Both recipes are presented in chart form (use this amount of ingredients for this size cake) with another chart for fruit additions.
There are lots of instructions for using "cake jewelry" (wire and beading to decorate the cakes) and specialty cookie cutters that look great but are also an unbelievable amount of work.
There are complete decorating instructions for 15 different cakes in 3 categories: round, square and creative (odd shapes).
All of the cakes are gorgeous, but most look extremely intimidating to try to make. But the title of this book is "Cakes to Inspire and Desire", not "Cakes to Whip Up in a Few Minutes". And they certainly do inspire!
